| Saint Dominic's Monastery |
Located atop Blue Mountain, overlooking the Shenandoah Valley, we and our visitors are continually awestruck by the beauty and majesty of the site. The property, once a prosperous apple orchard, provides the much needed space for a monastery and ensures the silence and solitude essential for the contemplative life. The monastery itself is simple but beautiful in its architectural design.
There have been countless blessings since our arrival in Linden on June 24, 2008: the dedication of the monastery by Bishop Paul S. Loverde, the generous ministry of the priests of the Arlington diocese and our own Dominican Friars in DC, the outpouring of love and generosity from the people of the diocese who have offered their assistance in numerous ways, the establishment of a cemetery on the monastery property and the erection of an enclosure fence.
An increasing number of young women are responding to God's invitation to our Dominican contemplative life. Presently, there are six Sisters in formation, one of whom will make her First Profession on Sept. 8, 2011. Another Postulant will be entering this fall and two other young women will be making a period of Aspirancy in the near future.
